This module will investigate the concept of stress from an individual and organisational perspective. The consequences of environmental and psychosocial stress will be examined and students will develop a critical understanding of the major theoretical models of stress and demonstrate the ability to relate these theories to a practical setting. The module is heavily contextualised towards stress and performance within a sporting environment, and will consider how individual attributes, coping strategies and environmental factors may contribute to an elite athlete’s perception of, and response to, stress and their subsequent performance. Strategies for stress management and behavioural change will also be explored.
