Detailed Description

Through this module you will be provided with the basic skills to design and carry out research in the transport subject areas at master level. You will work on your research under the supervision of an appointed member of academic staff, and through this you will become a subject expert in a recognised transport issue. You will also learn how to apply a range of research techniques, and all of this combined will aid you in the development of independent learning, critical thinking, and writing skills.

More formally, the module comprises two components.
The taught part of the module (term 2) offers an introduction to research in transport. You will learn how to identify research objectives and questions linked to the existing knowledge gaps in the transport field. You will actively develop your skills to carry out a literature review, searching for literature by means of the resources available through the University, and learn about research philosophies and methods. The main aim of this part of the module is to get you to think about research issues and how you will apply these to a subject area of your choice
